Two Thwarted Robbery Attempts in Courtenay

On January 16th, the Comox Valley RCMP responded to two attempted robbery reports. The first incident occurred at approximately 6:10 pm in the 4700 block of Headquarters Road in Courtenay, when the suspect male entered a local business demanding money.  After a brief struggle with the employees, the male fled empty handed. This male was described as being Caucasian in his mid to late 20’s, approximately 5’9” tall and 170 lbs. He was reported to be wearing darker clothing, gloves and a balaclava.

At 11:03 pm, the Comox Valley RCMP received a second report of an attempt robbery having occurred in the parking lot of a business located in the 300 block of Hunt Road, in Courtenay. During this incident, a suspect male approached a citizen as they were getting into their vehicle, demanding cash.  The victim fended off the suspect as he attempted to gain access to the vehicle and the suspect fled. This suspect male was described as 5’10” tall, approximately 170 lbs wearing a patterned jacket and a balaclava.

“The Comox Valley RCMP would like to remind everyone, do not struggle with, or put up a fight during these events. Do as you are told, and call 911 as soon as you can. Luckily no one was hurt in either of these incidents” stated Cst Rob Gardner, Comox Valley RCMP Media Relations Officer.   Police are attempting to determine if these incidents are related.
