Busy in the Comox Valley

With all of the Canada Day celebrations being cancelled there were less people gathering in public spaces here in the Comox Valley; however, the calls for service to the Comox Valley RCMP were plenty.

There were over 75 calls for service received by the Comox Valley RCMP on July 1st, 2020.

The Comox Valley RCMP Frontline members responded to the following calls:

“This was one of the busiest days in recent memory” said Cst. Terragni, Media Relations Officer, Comox Valley RCMP. “A day like this has all of our frontline members going from call to call, often without breaks or much of any down time” she added.

One frontline member was assaulted after attending a local business on an unrelated matter when an employee identified someone who allegedly just shoplifted. The member went outside to take the shoplifter into custody and without warning, was punched and hit in the head with a piece of wood. The member suffered cuts, bruises, and a possible concussion.

Some of the other calls included suspected impaired drivers, noise complaints, thefts from vehicles, possession of a handgun (turned out to be an airsoft pistol), and a missing person who was quickly located.
