Search Warrant executed in Courtenay
On March 4, 2021 the Comox Valley RCMP Street Crimes Unit executed a search warrant at a house well known to police for nuisance calls.
The focused investigation was initiated by reports of suspicious and potentially criminal activity going on at a residence and in the area on the 1600-block of 20th Street in Courtenay. The volume and nature of the reports lead the Comox Valley RCMP Street Crimes Unit to take on the investigation, which culminated in the execution of a search warrant yesterday.
“We’ve recovered property believed to be stolen, a firearm, ammunition, and a quantity of what is suspected to be controlled substances” said Cpl. Jill Swann, Comox Valley RCMP Street Crimes Unit. “The members of the Comox Valley RCMP are doing everything they can to address the complaints about this nuisance property, and are hopeful that collaboration with the City of Courtenay will lead to a successful outcome” She added.
In total, 19 people were arrested and several people are expected to face serious charges as a result. In addition to the criminal charges being considered, investigators will be exploring the possibility of fines associated to the violation of province-wide COVID-19 restrictions.
Investigators are continuing to comb through evidence seized and will be contacting owners of property believed to be stolen so that it can be returned.
The Comox Valley RCMP Street Crimes Unit will continue working in partnership with the City of Courtenay to ensure the safety of the residence moving forward.
