From December 12th to December 18th, the Comox Valley RCMP responded to 11 calls for theft from vehicles. Items taken from these vehicles included Compressor, tools, cash/change, skiing equipment, snow boards, personal government documents, a purse, assorted Christmas presents, and a laptop computer. The Comox Valley RCMP is asking that if this occurs to you, please report it, so the crime statistics can be as accurate as possible, but please, lock your car doors. The majority of these thefts can be deterred, simply by locking your doors and not leaving anything of value in your vehicle.
During the early morning hours of December 12th, a traffic stop was conducted by a Comox Valley RCMP officer. An impaired operation investigation was quickly started and it was found the driver had consumed alcohol before driving. The driver was issued a 90 day immediate roadside driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days. (2017-18112)
On December 12th, the Comox Valley RCMP received a report of a male spray-painting in an alley near the 400 block of Cliffe Avenue. A 22 year old Courtenay resident was located in the area and attempted to flee from the police officer while being arrested for Mischief. The male was released on a promise to appear with conditions to attend court on a future date. (2017-18114)
While conducting speed enforcement, on December 13th, a Comox Valley RCMP Municipal Traffic Section Officer located two vehicles travelling at a high rate of speed. The first vehicle was found to be travelling at 166 km/h in the posted 120 km/h zone on Highway 19. As a result, the driver was issued an excessive speed violation ticket and the vehicle was impounded for 7 days. (2017-18180) The second driver was found to be travelling at 131 Km/h in a posted 80 Km/h along Highway 19a. This driver also received an excessive speed violation ticket and the vehicle was impounded for 7 days. (2017-18186)
A report of mischief to a vehicle was received by the Comox Valley RCMP on December 13th. The vehicle had been parked on the 1700 block of Riverside Lane, in Courtenay. An unknown person had broken the vehicles passenger side window. (2017-18182)
A residential break, enter and theft was reported to the Comox Valley RCMP on December 13th. An unknown person(s) entered a vacant residence located on the 600 block of Arden Road, in Courtenay between December 8th and December 12th. Damage was done to the residence. The Integrated Forensic Identification Section is assisting with this investigation. (2017-18187)
A Grinch struck a house on the 2800 block Ulverston Avenue, in Cumberland on December 14th. It was reported to the Comox Valley RCMP that overnight, several inflatable decorations and lights were stolen off of a lawn. (2017-18246)
A mischief to a vehicle was reported to the Comox Valley RCMP on December 14th. The vehicle had been parked on the 4300 block of Island Highway South, and received several dents after being struck with an item, possibly a stick. (2017-18276)
More Christmas lawn ornaments were reported damaged and stolen to the Comox Valley RCMP on December 15th. Sometime overnight, unknown persons(s) attended a residence located on the 200 block of Centennial Drive in Courtenay. While there, several ornaments were kicked and some were stolen. (2017-18290)
The Comox Valley RCMP responded to the report of a boat motor and fuel tank theft on December 15th. The boat was parked in a carport on the 400 block of Arden Road overnight. The Boat motor is described as a Silver 2005 Honda 2HP outboard motor. Two fuel tanks, one a 6 gallon tank, and the other a 12 gallon tank, were stolen as well. (2017-18302)
On December 15th, the Comox Valley RCMP responded to a break, enter and theft that occurred to a trailer that had been parked on the 6500 block of Mystery Beach Road. Several various tools were stolen including chain saws, axes and a leaf blower. (2017-18328)
December 16th brought another report of stolen Christmas lawn ornaments. The Comox Valley RCMP were advised that Christmas decorations were stolen from the lawn of a residence on the 3300 block of Egremont Road, in Cumberland. (2017-18355)
A mischief to vehicle was reported to the Comox Valley RCMP on December 18th. The vehicle had been parked over the weekend on the 200 block of Beecher Place, in Courtenay. The owner found that an unknown person(s) had spray painted in appropriate pictures onto the vehicle. A building in the area was also found to be damaged. (2017-18423)
The Comox Valley RCMP responded to a theft of a vehicle report on December 18th. While the officers were responding to the area, the vehicle was located, stuck in traffic. A traffic stop was conducted and the male occupant was arrested. The 46 year old male, from Langley, is facing charges of possession of stolen property and obstruction. The male also had outstanding warrants, and was held in custody. (2017-18424)
A White, 1998 Jeep Cherokee was reported stolen to the Comox Valley RCMP on December 18th. The vehicle had been parked on the 1500 block of Dingwall overnight.
