Checking door handles leads to arrest
On December 22, 2020 the Comox Valley RCMP received a report of a man checking car door handles as he walked through the parking lot at Winners. Police attended, located the man, and placed him under arrest. Fortunately, it does not appear the man was able to gain entry into any of the vehicles in the parking lot. This serves as an important reminder that calling police to report suspicious behaviour is valuable and contributes to the reduction of crime in our community.

Gargoyles stolen from Fanny Bay
On January 1, 2020 the Comox Valley RCMP received a report of a break and enter to a fenced compound on the 7500-block of Island Highway South in Fanny Bay. The break and enter occurred between December 31, 2020 and January 1, 2021. The suspect(s) were likely in the area for a while as they stole several statues worth hundreds of dollars and weighing hundreds of pounds. Photos of similar statues can been seen below. Anyone who observed suspicious behaviour, vehicles in the area, has dashcam footage, or knows the whereabouts of these stolen statues is asked call police.

New Years in the Comox Valley
Frontline members of the Comox Valley RCMP were all over the Comox Valley responding to a large number of calls on New Years Eve into the morning hours on New Years Day.
There were 3 reports of shots fired and 6 reports of fireworks before midnight.
One driver passing through a check stop told the officer that her last drink was at 10:00 p.m. when it was only 9:30 p.m. A little more investigation lead the officer to believe her ability to operate her vehicle was affected by alcohol. She was issued a driving prohibition for 90 days and had her car impounded for 30 days.
In the morning, a member of the Comox Valley RCMP Bike Unit located a large dog running in traffic. The dog stopped and stood in the middle of the 5th Street Bride as traffic came to a standstill. The quick-thinking officer commandeered a snack from one of the drivers who was stuck in traffic. With the assistance of bystanders and other police officers, a granola bar was used to lure to dog into the back of a police truck. The dog enjoyed his ride in the back of a police truck to the detachment where he waited for his owner to come and get him.
