Between June 20th and July 3rd, the Comox Valley RCMP received 19 calls regarding thefts from vehicles. Items taken from these vehicles included Sunglasses, a gas card, wallets, clothing, house keys, a satellite radio, paintings, a GPS unit, booster cables and loose change/cash, scotty down riggers and fishing rods from a boat, . The Comox Valley RCMP is asking that if this occurs to you, please report it, so the crime statistics can be as accurate as possible, but please lock your car doors. The majority of these thefts can be deterred, simply by locking your doors and not leaving anything of value in your vehicle.
From June 20th to July 3rd, the Comox Valley RCMP received thirteen reports of stolen bicycles. The following bikes are still outstanding:
- June 20th – Black and White Women’s Specialized 10 speed-has a black and red front basket (2017-8106)
June 20th – Gray and Lime Green Giant Foam 2 (2017-8147)
June 20th – Blue ‘Quark’ infinity Mountain bike with shocks (2017-8148)
June 21st-- Black Raleigh with white decal designs (2017-8186)
June 21st—Navy Blue Supercycle with 2 new tires (2017-8207)
June 21st—Black and Green Giant Roam Mountain Bike (2017-8215)
June 23rd—Grey Louis Garneau Road bike (2017-8885)
June 26th—Blue ‘Trick’ BMX with pegs on front wheels (2017-8478)
June 28th—Blue Planet X Mountain bike (2017-8637)
June 30th – Black and White Trek 12 Speed Mountain bike (2017-8763)
July 1st—Metalic Silver 21 Speed CCM Full suspension Mountain bike (2017-8819)
July 3rd—Silver Gary Fisher Mountain bike with blue stickers and saddle bag rack (2017-8910)
The Comox Valley RCMP would like to remind bike owners to record the serial numbers of bikes. With the serial numbers, the bikes can be entered onto the RCMP computer system. This will aid in getting your bike back to you if it is located.
The Comox Valley RCMP were advised of found property on June 21st. While out for a walk in Lazo, BC, a pedestrian located two Air Compressors in a ditch. The compressors were picked up by an officer and are now in custody at the Comox Valley RCMP Detachment. If you have had an Air Compressor stolen or go missing recently and have not reported it to the RCMP, it may be at the detachment. Please contact the Comox Valley RCMP at 250-338-1321, cite file number 2017-8190 and if you can identify the compressors, we’d like to get them back to the owners.
While conducting speed enforcement on June 21st, a Comox Valley RCMP traffic officer impounded a vehicle that had been travelling at an excessive speed through a playground zone. The vehicle was found to be travelling 80 km/h in the posted 30 km/h zone. An excessive speed violation ticket was issued, as well, the vehicle was impound. As school is out, the Comox Valley RCMP would like to remind drivers to be mindful of playground zones. (2017-8192)
A break, enter and theft, to a residence located on the 900 block of 17th Street, in Courtenay was reported to the Comox Valley RCMP on June 21st. Several cordless hand tools and small hand tools were stolen from the residence. The Comox Valley RCMP Forensic Identification Section is assisting with the investigation of this Break, Enter and Theft. (2017-8202)
A motorcyclist was noted to be riding their motorbike, without a helmet during the early morning hours of June 22nd. A traffic stop was conducted and an impaired driving investigation was quickly started. It was discovered that the motorcycle operator had consumed alcohol before riding. The rider was issued a 90 day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and the bike was impounded for 30 days. (2017-8239)
For the second time in less than a week, a vehicle was stopped for excessive speed in a playground zone. On June 27th, a Comox Valley RCMP Municipal traffic member was conducting stationary speed enforcement in a marked 30 km/h speed zone. A vehicle was found to be travelling at 77km/h in the posted 30 km/h zone. A traffic stop was conducted, the driver was issued an excessive speed violation ticket. The vehicle was impounded for seven days. (2017-8558)
A residential break, enter and theft was reported to the Comox Valley RCMP on June 28th. Sometime during the day on June 27th, the residence, located on the 9000 block of Bracken Road, in Courtenay, was broken into, and several items were stolen. The items included 2 firearms, electronics and jewelry. (2017-8607)
On June 28th, The Comox Valley RCMP received a complaint of a mischief to a vehicle that had been parked on the 2800 block of Cliffe Avenue, in Courtenay. The vehicle is reported to have been scratched, multiple times along the passenger side. (2017-8632)
A picnic table, located in a park, on the 2800 block of Dunsmuir Avenue, in Cumberland, was reported damaged to the Comox Valley RCMP on June 29th. The mischief is believed to have occurred between June 23rd and June 24th. Unknown person(s) had damaged the concrete picnic table beyond repair. (2017-8659)
The Comox Valley RCMP received a report of business a break, enter and theft on June 29th. A laptop computer and a cellphone and charger were stolen from the business. The laptop was recovered the following day. The Comox Valley RCMP Forensic Identification Service is assisting with this file. (2017-8683)
Two vehicles were reported to have been damaged overnight on July 1st, in Cumberland. The Comox Valley RCMP were advised that the vehicles were parked on the 2700 block of Derwent Avenue. One vehicle had a large dent in the driver side door, and the other vehicle had scratches across the hood. (2017-8791)
During the early morning hours of July 2nd, the driver of a vehicle caught the attention of a Comox Valley RCMP officer. A traffic stop was conducted and an impaired operation of a motor vehicle investigation was started. It was found that the driver had consumed alcohol before driving. A 90 day Immediate Roadside Prohibition was served, and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days. (2017-8848)
The Comox Valley RCMP received a report of a mischief to a vehicle on July 3rd, after a vehicle had all four of its tires slashed. The vehicle had been parked, overnight, on the 1500 block of Dogwood Avenue, in Courtenay. (2017-8925)
