    Scam Alert
Local businesses are advised to be aware of a potential email scam which is new to our area. Recently a person contacted a Comox Valley car dealership advising they were acting as an agent for a potential customer who was interested in purchasing three vehicles from the dealership. The person made arrangements via email with one of the car salesman. A cheque for the vehicles in excess of $50,000.00 was received by the dealership with the instructions to deposit the cheque and contact the agent. A short time later the agent contacted the salesman stating the purchaser had changed their mind and now only wished to purchase one vehicle and requested the remaining funds be wired back to the purchasers bank account ASAP. The dealership became suspicious and contacted the bank from where the cheque was issued. The bank advised the bank account was legitimate but the cheque was a forgery. The dealership then contacted the Comox Valley Detachment.
